Датата 6 февруари винаги ще бъде специално отбелязана в календарите на всички хора свързани по някакъв начин с Манчестър Юнайтед.На този ден през 1958 година – най-черният в историята на „червените дяволи” – 23-ма души включително 8 играчи и трима члена на клуба – загиват в следствие на фатални наранявания в Мюнхенската самолетна катастрофа.
В полет, на връщане от двубой с белградския Цървена звезда от КЕШ, клубният самолет каца в Германия, за да зареди с гориво. Първите два опита за излитане от летището в Мюнхен са прекратени. Третият опит обаче е фатален.
Двадесет и двама пасажери умират на място, докато Дънкан Едуардс – една от жертвите от тима – умира 15 дни по-късно, в резултат на нараняванията от катастрофата.
Мюнхенската трагедия е неразделна част от историята на Манчестър Юнайтед, като един от оцелелите сър Мат Бъзби, преодолява нараняванията си и изгражда велик отбор, който 10 години по-късно печели КЕШ. Сред оцелелите е и сър Боби Чарлтън (СПОРТНО).
